The Nizami Ganjavi International Center was honored to welcome H.E. Mukhtar Babayev, President of COP29.

The meeting focused on the outcomes of COP29 and future initiatives, including discussions on the upcoming XII Global Baku Forum.

NGIC Secretary-General Rovshan Muradov and Board Member Zlatko Lagumdzija, Permanent Representative of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the UN and former Prime Minister, met with Guy Ryder, Under-Secretary-General for Policy at the United Nations. During their discussion, he formally extended an invitation to the upcoming Global Baku Forum and explored ways to enhance engagement between the United Nations and the Nizami Ganjavi International Center. Their conversation also addressed key global challenges, highlighting the importance of multilateral dialogue in tackling pressing international issues. They further examined potential areas for collaboration, emphasizing the significance of strategic partnerships in advancing global stability, sustainable development, and inclusive policymaking.

The Imperial Springs International Forum 2024 has been operating as a high-level platform promoting mutual understanding and cooperation on global issues since 2014.

The Forum, which took place in Madrid, Spain, on December 11-12, 2024, was attended by more than 130 political leaders, influential figures and experts from more than 40 countries, including former heads of state and government, academics and representatives of international organizations.

The event was attended by high-level government representatives from China. At the opening ceremony of the event, a message from the President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping has been delivered. According to him: “The world needs to adhere to the core values ​​and fundamental principles of multilateralism more than ever.”

The forum held sessions on topics such as “Expanding Global Cooperation: Shaping a Shared Future for Humanity”, “Financing for Development, Towards the Full Implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals”, and “Global Strategic Stability”.

The Nizami Ganjavi International Center, one of the main partners of the Forum, represented by the Co-Chair Dr. Ismail Serageldin, former President of Latvia, Mr. Valdis Zatlers: former Presidents of Bulgaria, Mr. Petar Stoyanov and Mr. Rosen Plevneliev; former President of Serbia, Mr. Boris Tadic; former President of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mr. Mladen Ivanic; former President of Croatia, Mr. Ivo Josipovic; former President of Montenegro, Mr. Filip Vujanovic; Permanent Representative of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the UN and former Prime Minister, Mr. Zlatko Lagumdzia; former Prime Minister of Moldova, Mr. Chiril Gaburici; former Deputy Prime Minister of Georgia, Ms. Eka Tkeshelashvili; the President of the 77th Session of the UN General Assembly, Mr. Ksaba Korosi and the President of the 73rd Session of the UN General Assembly.

NGIC Secretary-General Rovshan Muradov held a meeting with Achim Steiner, Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). He expressed gratitude for UNDP’s collaboration during COP29, particularly their role in co-hosting the joint pavilion and organizing side events. The discussion focused on the outcomes and joint initiatives for COP29, as well as preparations for the upcoming XII Global Baku Forum.

NGIC Secretary-General Rovshan Muradov met with Dennis Francis, President of the 78th Session of the United Nations General Assembly. They engaged in discussions on global security challenges, multilateral cooperation, and the role of international dialogue in addressing pressing geopolitical and socio-economic issues. The conversation underscored the necessity of fostering inclusive decision-making processes and strengthening the UN’s role in promoting peace, stability, and sustainable development, with a particular focus on COP29 and the upcoming XII Global Baku Forum.

NGIC Secretary-General Rovshan Muradov held a meeting with H.E. Philémon Yang, President of the United Nations General Assembly. During the meeting, he formally invited President Yang to participate in the Forum and emphasized the importance of high-level UN engagement in global discussions on governance, economic stability, and sustainable development. Key topics included COP29, the XII Global Baku Forum, and the Pact for the Future.

The Nizami Ganjavi International Center partnered with the UN Alliance of Civilizations for the 10th Global Forum.
The Forum was held from November 25-27, 2024, in the city of Cascais, Portugal. Over 20 members of the Center participated under the leadership of the Center's Co-Chairs, former President of Latvia Mrs. Vaira Vike-Freiberga, and World Bank Vice President Dr. Ismail Serageldin.

Among the participants of the meeting were former Presidents of Bulgaria Rosen Plevneliev; former Presidents of Serbia Boris Tadić; former Presidents of Latvia Valdis Zatlers and Egils Levits;  former President of Bosnia and Herzegovina Mladen Ivanić; former President of North Macedonia George Ivanov; former President of Croatia Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović; Permanent Representative of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the UN and former Prime Minister Zlatko Lagumdžija; former Prime Minister of Belgium Yves Leterme; former Prime Minister of Senegal Aminata Touré; former Prime Minister of Greece George Papandreou; former Federal Minister of Foreign Affairs of Austria and European Commissioner Benita Ferrero-Waldner; former Defense Minister of Montenegro Milica Pejanović-Durisic; former Deputy Prime Minister of Georgia Eka Tkeshelashvili; former Secretary General of the League of Arab States Amr Moussa; former President of the UN General Assembly Maria Fernanda Espinosa; and former President Volkan Bozkır; UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador Hedva Ser; Secretary-General of the Nizami Ganjavi International Center Rovshan Muradov, and the Chief Strategy and Sustainability Officer Rza Aliyev.

During their visit to Portugal, the Center's members discussed the results of COP29, which had taken place in the preceding days, and preparations for the upcoming XII Global Baku Forum.

Also, within the framework of the 10th UNAOC Global Forum, a meeting was held with the Secretary-General of the UN, H.E. António Guterres. The discussion focused on how to support the Alliance of Civilizations, UNAOC dialogue, understanding, and the outcomes of COP29. A clear message was conveyed that everyone should be mobilized on the climate crisis.

NGIC Secretary General Rovshan Muradov and Chief Strategy and Sustainability Officer Rza Aliyev had a productive dinner with Muhammad Yunus, Chief Advisor of Bangladesh and Nobel Peace Prize Laureate (2006), ahead of COP29.
Discussions focused on NGIC's role in COP29 and the upcoming XII Global Baku Forum. 

As part of his official visit to Azerbaijan, H.E. Jakov Milatović, President of Montenegro, visited the HQ of the Nizami Ganjavi International Center ahead of COP29.

During the visit, the Center presented its special publication on the legacy of Nizami Ganjavi, The Magic of the Pen: Selected Miniatures from the Khamsa of Nizami Ganjavi. They discussed the upcoming XII Global Baku Forum, COP29, and other future events.

 The Nizami Ganjavi International Center was honored to welcome Miguel Angel Moratinos, Under-Secretary-General and high representative for the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC), along with Nihal Saad, Director of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations, at NGIC Headquarters.

During the meeting, discussions centered on our partnership and the upcoming X Global Forum in Cascais, Portugal.
